Government Initiatives, Incorporated (GI2) is pleased to offer a National Rifle Association (NRA) approved firearms training program taught by an NRA Certified Instructor.
The program includes the following courses:

What will you learn in an NRA basic course?
Using the NRA training method of Total Participant Involvement, basic courses provide hands on learning opportunities in the following areas:
• Safe firearm handling
• Firearm parts and operation
• Ammunition and its function
• Shooting fundamentals and an opportunity to develop them on the range
• How to select, clean and store a firearm
• Review of various activities available to help participants develop and improve their shooting skills
NRA's FIRST STEPS PROGRAM
FIRST (Firearm Instruction, Responsibility and Safety Training)
STEPS is the latest addition to the NRA's training programs for new shooters.
It provides hands-on orientation to one specific rifle, pistol or shotgun model in as little as three hours, including a one-hour shooting session on a range.

MARYLAND HANDGUN PERMIT CLASSESIn addition to the above NRA courses, we offer a Maryland State Police approved initial and recurring training program required for the issuance and renewal of a Maryland Concealed Carry Weapons Permit, known in Maryland as a Handgun Permit.
These requirements exist for the following groups of individuals:
Citizens applying for a Hand Gun Permit
Citizens holding Hand Gun Permits
Holder of Special Police Commission
Uniformed Security Guard
Special Railway Police
Watchman
Private Detective
Employees of a Private Detective
Guard employed by: Bank, Savings and Loan Association, Building and Loan Association, Express Agency, or Armored Car Agency.
This course of instruction includes the following:
1. Lecture of Safety: At least one hour discussing and demonstrating safety with the handgun on the range, off the range, at home, transporting and while on duty. Safety is paramount and will be strongly emphasized in all phases of training.
2. Training regarding Legal Responsibilities: At least one hour of instruction regarding when a person has a legal right to use a weapon, under what circumstances and for what reasons. The Pyramid of Force will be discussed, as well as less than lethal and non-lethal alternatives and when an individual is obligated to retreat under Maryland law.
3. Care and Use of a Handgun:
At least 6 hours of training in the following:
a. Nomenclature
b. Maintenance to include field stripping
c. Sight alignment
d. Trigger squeeze
e. Breathing control
f. Grip
g. Follow-thru
h. Eye and hearing protection
i. Proper shooting positions
j. Holster, draw and re-holster drills
k. Cover clothing
l. Concealed carry holsters and equipment
m. Magazine, speed strip and speed loader operations
m. Safe dry firing…where and when
n. Range operations, commands and safety
o. Live fire from 1 to not more than 25 yds on a practical pistol course of fire. The course qualification round will be preceded by ample practice and individual instruction as necessary.
Students are required by Maryland to use either a .38 Special revolver with at least a 2” and not more than 6” barrel or a 9mm pistol. A qualifying score of 70% must be fired on the practical police course to obtain a Handgun Permit. For Individuals holding a Handgun Permit issued pursuant to Title 5-306, Annotated Code of Maryland, whether or not the training prescribed in Regulation 12 was required before the issuance of the permit, are required to attend 4 hours of training and live fire, achieving a minimum score of 70% to be eligible for renewal of their handgun permit. This training must be administered by a Certified Handgun Instructor and consist of a refresher course on safety and legal responsibilities.

Get together with your friend and neighbors and attend one of these classes or ask you about bringing a class to you!
These courses are taught with the assistance of a young lady who is a former Federal Special Agent and Federal Firearms Dealer. Her insight into a woman’s needs is most valuable and provides students a unique perspective, not offered in most other training. This course is conducted in a classroom setting, they provide all the basic instruction in the use, maintenance and storage of the subject weapon.
HUNTING AND SAFETY COURSE
GI2 also offers a course for hunting small and big game, with a rifle, shotgun and pistol as well as bow hunting. This course is taught by a lifelong hunter with nearly 50 years experience hunting from Florida to Alaska. He is a former Alaska Hunter Safety Instructor and a current Maryland Department of Natural Resources certified Hunter Safety Instructor and Bow Hunting Instructor.
